Shea Emry lost his identity when he suffered a terrible concussion playing football. Learn how he found himself again and is now helping others do the same.

A branded film created for Manulife. Shot on Sony FS7 and A7S. Cut in Adobe Premiere CC and finished in Da Vinci Resolve 12.
My role was editor, sound designer and colourist.

For me, I wanted the piece to evoke a serene and almost sublime feeling from the start. Shea's story is one of struggle and depression and the eventual healing he found when he reconnected with nature. Therefore, we glimpse this healing under mysterious circumstances in the early moments of the piece before getting into the conflict of the story and eventually the peaceful resolution.
In the shot with the title card there's this amazing moment of juxtaposition between nature and man – Shea is standing under these enormous, giant trees in Vancouver – and it all subtly conveys the eventual story Shea tells about finding himself in nature in one single shot.
Once I created this moment with the music underneath, I knew the rest of the piece would fall into place.
